Ear wax (otherwise known as cerumen) is a harmless substance made by tiny glands in the ear canals. Its job is to clean & protect the ears by trapping dirt & germs from getting deep inside your ear where they could cause an ear infection. Some ear wax in the ear canal is completely normal.
Usually, ear wax naturally moves out of the ear and takes the dirt & dead skin cells with it, however, on occasion wax may be considered for removal if the ear drum needs to be inspected to help make a medical diagnosis or to help alleviate symptoms such as reduced hearing, tinnitus, pain, vertigo and interference with hearing aids.
At Advanced Hearing WA we offer Wax Removal via micro suction. With micro suction the wax is directly visualised under a microscope whilst it is being removed and no water is involved, making it a much cleaner & safer wax removal method.
